Appearance[]

Although older Kallen hasn't changed a bit except that she wears her favored hair style more and she only puts her hair down on special occasions. As a Knight of the Round, Kallen regularly wore her knight uniform although she hates it, she does it to please Nunnally and as a sign of loyalty to the throne. She recently has become paler and thinner due to lack of sleep haunted by her memories of Lelouch and the reoccurring dreams did not help either.

Personality and Traits[]

Kallen has shown to have a rebellious personality as she is strong willed, short tempered, impulsive and quite feisty. Despite her tough attitude Kallen is actually quite sensitive and gentle, however after the death of her brother she doesn't show this side much anymore. Her brother's death has also affected her relationship with her father and mother, over time however she begins to renew her relationship with her mother and like her brother she becomes one of Kallen's reasons to liberate Japan; her relationship with her father, both before and after Britannia took over Japan, is never revealed, though she has referred to him as "dad" on one occasion, implying that their relationship is (or at least was) probably positive. While being both Japanese and Britannian, Kallen has the ability to live a normal life however she refuses to fully accept her Britannian side as it would mean abandoning her Japanese friends, people, and self; thus making her one of the few selfless character's in the series. On multiple occasions she has claimed that she hates Britannians, though that is clearly an exaggeration, as she has been seen caring about Britannian civilians on multiple occasions, a prime example being her visible concern for the Student Council during the Lake Kawaguchi incident.[1]

Her relationship with Lelouch becomes one of the main focuses in her character development. While in the beginning Kallen dislikes Lelouch due to his arrogant attitude and possibly due to the fact that the Student Council thinks they're dating. As for his alter-ego Zero, Kallen holds a strong admiration to Zero due to his leadership and his beliefs in justice. After it is revealed to her that Lelouch and Zero are the same person she is left with the idea that he was using both the Japanese and her through Suzaku's words. In time however, she learns that Lelouch's true intentions are noble and thus she slowly develops feelings for him. Her loyalty towards Lelouch has been tested throughout the series as such when she was willing to die with him instead of living and betraying him, as well as when she still retained her feelings for him even after he became an enemy of the world but opposed him because of the injustice he was causing and was shown how hesitant she was when she was trying to kill him. After finding out his plans, Kallen was the only other person besides Nunnally and Suzaku to shed tears for Lelouch and choosing to remember him not as the enemy of the world but as the man she loved.

After Emperor Lelouch's death, Kallen had returned to Ashford following Lelouch's request and studied there like a normal student which she missed due to her life as a Black Knight. Although she held the status as a war-hero by the world, she is in truth, a shadow of her former self, still suffering from Lelouch's death or rather betrayal as she sees it for not involving her in the Zero Requiem but mourns him nevertheless. She is still confused on whether she did indeed held a place in Lelouch's heart or that she was the cause of his death. Kallen still could not forgive herself to fight Lelouch and she bears some hatred for the new Zero, Suzaku Kururugi for encouraging Lelouch to follow his death.

The appearance of Sir Arthur Peregrine however would either clear things up for her or make things worse...

History[]

Taking Lelouch's last words to her to heart, she did her best to live her life to the fullest. When war seeks to break out again, Kallen was one of the first to stand at Empress Nunnally's side as the Knight of Two. Later she was requested by Zero and UFN to lead the Black Knight Expeditionary Forces to aid the outnumbered defenders of Empire against the rebel forces.

Intellect[]

While not in the same league as Lelouch, Kallen is remarkably intelligent and cunning both in and out of battle. When she attended Ashford Academy, her grades were regularly in the top of her class despite frequent absences, and she has often displayed great resourcefulness in times of confrontation. As the commander of Zero Squadron, she is a top notch tactician that can make the best of her unit's capabilities, as well as exploit her pilots' otherwise defective personalities to the Black Knights' gain. Because of this and many other factors, her pilots regard her as the brains behind Zero Squadron and follow her commands without hesitation while believing that, no matter how outrageous her plan may sound, she will always pull through for them in the end.

Physical[]

Of all of her talents, Kallen is best skilled in a knightmare frame. Even before her identity became well known, she was and is acknowledged as the best pilot of the Black Knights by enemies and allies alike, with a skill level that matches that of most Knights of the Round. Her codename, "Q-1," references, in algebraic chess notation, the Queen piece, the most powerful piece in chess. With the radiation arm of her Guren, Kallen can take down almost any Knightmare Frame in a single attack should they allow her to make physical contact, and later models also have numerous secondary attack modes for mid- and long-range combat. Her knightmare frame is also incredibly fast, allowing her to fight on the same level as some of the most advanced knightmares in the series. In the Guren SEITEN Eight Elements she is almost unstoppable and is likely one of the most powerful Knightmare pilots alive to have been able to fight Suzaku Kururugi even with his "live on" command activated.

Outside of a Knightmare, Kallen is a master level martial artist that has studied various fighting styles over her lifetime, including Karate, Jujutsu, Tae Kwan Do, Boxing, and various form of grappling and throws. As well, she is quite skilled with just about any kind of weapon, though she particularly favours the knife and pistol which fits to her fighting style in the Guren.
